Our Team

Our Sport Performance team consists of Sport Psychologists and clinicians who are licensed in multiple states.

Paul Groenewal, PsyD

Dr. Paul Groenewal is a Licensed Clinical Psychologist and a Sport Psychologist. He completed a Masters and a Doctorate in Clinical Psychology at Fuller Theological Seminary. His clients include teams wanting to increase cohesion and creating an environment that promotes high performance. Dr. Groenewal assists individual performers in understanding their personal psychology and developing strategies that lead to elite performances. He is the Sport Psychologist for the Brooklyn Nets, where his job is to educate on, develop and implement high performance strategies for elite athletes. He also works with the NY Liberty, the Nets Gaming Crew, and serves as a clinical consultant to the NY Jets. Dr. Groenewal is the co-owner of a group psychology practice called Inspire Wellness. His group includes more than 25 clinicians and 3 locations in northern New Jersey. He has worked with athletes at many levels and in various sports.

Marissa Norman, PsyD

Dr. Marissa Norman is a Sport Psychologist holding a M.S. in Sport and Exercise Psychology and a Doctoral Degree in Clinical Psychology. Marissa has 7-years of experience working alongside athletes of different backgrounds and levels (youth athletes to professional athletes) in addition to her own personal experience competing as a Division I Track and Field Pentathlete and Heptathlete. Marissa has worked with student-athletes, teams, coaches, administrators and staff at several Division I, II, and III institutions including the University of Minnesota, Bowdoin College, and Barry University. She has also severed as the team sport psychologist for the USA Junior Curling High Performance Program. Considering each athlete’s individualistic needs, Marissa aims to help her clients reach their full potential both in athletics and life endeavors. In addition to supporting athletes in enhancing performance through mental skills training, she provides mental health and counseling support.

Kate Martino, LPC, NCC

Kate is a Licensed Associate Counselor and National Certified Counselor. She received a Master of Arts in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Fairleigh Dickinson University. She completed her Bachelor’s degree from The College of the Holy Cross where she majored in Psychology. Kate previously worked as a Mental Health Associate at High Focus Center and monitored adolescent clients in partial hospitalization and intensive outpatient treatment groups. She specializes in working with youth, high school, collegiate, and professional athletes by providing mental skills to help them reach optimal performance in their sport. In addition to enhancing athlete performance, Kate addresses mental health issues and develops individualized treatment plans to fit each client’s needs. She’s currently working with the Long Island Nets G League by assisting players with performance development and enhancement strategies during in season training. Kate was a 12 Letter Varsity athlete at Summit High School competing in soccer, basketball, and lacrosse. She was a member of the 2013 NCAA Division I Women’s Lacrosse National Championship Team at the University of North Carolina. Kate finished her lacrosse career at the College of the Holy Cross.

Julian Rapaport, PhD

Dr. Julian Rapaport is a Psychologist who earned his Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology from Adelphi University after earning his Master’s in Forensic Psychology from John Jay College of Criminal Justice. Prior to joining Inspire Wellness, Dr. Julian trained in a hospital, a university counseling center, and two psychoanalytic training institutes before completing his capstone internship at Nassau University Medical Center. Dr. Julian works with people of all ages, providing individual, group, and family therapy. He has expertise in the treatment of psychological disorders across the spectrum, including depression, anxiety, relationship issues, trauma and PTSD, life transitions, and grief. He also works with athletes who are passionate about bettering themselves in their sport and in life. Dr. Julian takes a collaborative and individualized approach to treatment and believes that therapy works best when it is a meeting of minds. He helps his patients gain deeper self-awareness, build stronger interpersonal connections, and experience themselves fully and honestly. In his work with athletes, Dr. Julian also assists in the learning and implementation of strategies that promote exceptional performance.

BJ Durham, PhD Candidate

BJ is a National Certified Counselor pursuing his Ph.D. in Counseling and Counselor Education at North Carolina State University. He received a Master of Arts in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Waynesburg University, where he also completed his Bachelor’s degree majoring in Psychology with a minor in Sociology. BJ previously worked as a mental health counselor and substance use counselor at Southwestern Pennsylvania Human Services in Washington, PA. Currently, he specializes in working with youth, collegiate, and young adult clients, providing them with techniques and approaches to enhance all aspects of life and live holistically well. He also focuses on identity salience amongst athletes and utilizing mindfulness techniques to improve athletic performance. BJ is also a former collegiate basketball player from Waynesburg University.

Lyndsay Pace, LSW

Lyndsay is a Licensed Social Worker who holds a Master of Social Work degree from Rutgers University. She received a Bachelor's degree from Mount Saint Mary College, majoring in Psychology and minoring in Human Services. Lyndsay competed as a Varsity athlete at Cranford High School in basketball, soccer, and track. She pursued her athletic career as a basketball player on the Mount Saint Mary’s women's basketball team. Before joining Inspire Wellness, Lyndsay trained at schools, community-based services, and a hospital. Currently, she works with children, adolescents, and athletes on clinical issues, including anxiety, depression, and mood disorders.

Prateeksha Patel, LAC

Prateeksha is a Licensed Associate Counselor currently pursuing her PsyD in Counseling Psychology at Saint Elizabeth University. She received a Master of Arts in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Kutztown University. Throughout her training, Prateeksha has worked in various locations such as hospitals, non-profit organizations, and private practices. She specializes in working with young adults and adults, treating many clinical concerns such as anxiety, depression, trauma, personality disorders, neurodevelopmental disorders, mood disorders, and grief. Prateeksha considers how culture, among other factors, influences psychopathology and caters treatment needs specifically for each client. Lastly, Prateeksha is interested in sport psychology and how self-awareness, resilience, mindset, and interpersonal relationships can affect athletes’ wellbeing.

LindseyScarmozzino, LAC, NCC 

Lindsey is a Licensed Associate Counselor and National Certified Counselor. She received her Master of Arts in Clinical Mental Health Counseling and Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from Fairleigh Dickinson University in Madison, NJ. Lindsey specializes in working with individuals and teams at the high school, collegiate and professional levels by providing mental skills to aid clients in reaching their optimal performance.  In addition to mental performance, Lindsey treats clients with psychological disorders across the spectrum including but not limited to anxiety, depression, personality, and adjustment. In her work, Lindsey develops individualized treatment plans dependent on the specific needs of her clients. In addition to her work with us here at Inspire Wellness, Lindsey has over 5 years of experience coaching soccer at the collegiate and academy levels where she is currently an assistant coach at Fairleigh Dickinson University and over 6 years of experience in the fitness industry.

Jeffrey A. Barrett, M.D., CASAC-T

Dr. Barrett is part of the Brooklyn Nets consulting team. He is a graduate of Columbia College, Dartmouth Medical School, and Harvard’s Health Professions Program, specializes in behavioral health, addiction, and total wellness coaching. He has experience working with professional athletes providing supportive and mental health coaching. Dr. Barrett was born in Jamaica and is interested in how culture and ethnicity shape decision, leadership development, and organizational performance. He enjoys connecting with his clients and describes himself as a compassionate listening for healing and transformation. Dr. Barrett is exquisitely sensitive to issues of racial equality, diversity, inclusion, and tolerance in the workplace.
