PEERS® Social Skills Program for Adolescents

Program for the Education and Enrichment of Relational Skills (PEERS®)  is a 15 week social skills program for middle school through high school teens interested in learning ways to help make and keep friends. During each group session adolescents are taught important social skills and are given the opportunity to practice these skills during socialization activities. Parents attend separate sessions at the same time and are taught how to assist their teens by providing feedback through coaching during weekly socialization homework assignments. The group is guided by the Program for the Education and Enrichment of Relationship Skills curriculum developed at UCLA by Dr. Elizabeth Laugeson and Dr. Fred Frankel. 

 

A few topics of instruction include:

  • How to use appropriate conversational skills

  • How to organize successful get-togethers with friends

  • How to handle arguments and disagreement s with friends and in relationships

  • How to handle rejections, teasing, bullying, rumors/gossip and cyber bullying

  • How to appropriately use electronic forms of communication

Pre-requisites/  Participation Requirements

  • Middle School or early High School Teens with friendship issues

  • Teens must be interested in attending the program and agree to voluntarily participate

  • Teens and Parents must consistently attend weekly sessions

  • Parent participation is required
